Whether that's making music, picking up an instrument for the first time, returning to a long-forgotten passion or simply finding a creative outlet in a supportive environment - The Hiive exists to nurture creativity on your terms.

Meet Alan
The Hiive is the result of a perfect collision between Alan's lifelong creative passions and his diverse professional experience.
A pragmatic thinker with a creative heart, Alan has worked as both a jingle writer and concept artist while building a successful career in Retail Asset Management and Development. While those industries may seem worlds apart, they share a common thread: solving problems, understanding people and creating meaningful experiences.
In 2019, Alan returned his focus to music and art, establishing The Hiive Art and Performance Galleries across Hyde Park, Thebarton and Houghton. These spaces showcased local artists and musicians while creating opportunities for community connection through creativity.
As demand for The Hiive's music and art programs grew through word of mouth, Alan expanded his work into schools and community settings throughout metro Adelaide. Today he provides music support within primary and secondary schools, as well as individual experiences from The Hiive's Houghton studio.
Alan is known for his highly observant, thoughtful and considerate approach. He understands the importance of routine, predictability and trust, while gently encouraging participants to explore new ideas and creative possibilities at a pace that feels comfortable and achievable.

Our Houghton Studio
Located just off the main square in Houghton, The Hiive is housed in the former CWA Hall - a space that has long been part of the local community.
While the building has been thoughtfully adapted into a creative studio, it retains the practical features that made it such a valuable community space. Participants and visitors have access to kitchen and bathroom facilities, comfortable waiting areas and ample onsite parking.
The studio is divided into two main spaces:

The Hiive has been intentionally designed to feel less like a classroom and more like a creative home base - a place where people can feel comfortable, supported and inspired to create.

All participants are requested to attend an open session to view The Hiive facilities to satisfy any queries to which they may have;
All mentors and care providers (or an authorised representative) are to be present during the agreed sessions;
Sessions are to be booked in advance for an agreed period of no less than ten (10) weeks with payments due and payable on the session date. If in the event the booking term is cancelled, seven (7) days written notice is required by either party;
All parties acknowledge the sessions are of a creative musical nature and no formal musical education i.e. music of a written nature, may apply;
The Hiive does not accept any responsibility for any damage to equipment provided by any third party during any activity conducted on the premises;
A cancellation fee equivalent to the booking value will apply if notice is not provided (writing or verbalised) by 6:00pm the day prior to the session date;
The Hiive reserves the discretionary right to terminate any booking arrangement.
